What is a QNED TV and how does it work? +

QNED stands for Quantum NanoCell Emitting Diode. It is a proprietary display technology developed by LG that combines two of the best LCD colour technologies: Quantum Dots and NanoCell filters. By layering both technologies over a bright LED backlight, QNED TVs filter out light impurities to deliver incredibly pure, vibrant, and accurate colours that standard LED TVs cannot replicate.

Is QNED better than OLED? +

Neither is universally "better"—they suit different room environments.

OLED uses self-lit pixels, meaning it can turn off individual pixels completely to achieve perfect blacks and infinite contrast. It is the gold standard for dark-room home cinemas.
QNED is an advanced LCD TV utilising a powerful backlight. While its blacks are not as pitch-black as OLED, QNED TVs can get significantly brighter. This makes QNED the superior choice for bright living rooms with lots of natural daylight or windows, as it easily cuts through glare.

Do all QNED TVs use Mini-LED technology? +

No, not all QNED TVs are created equal. LG produces two tiers of QNED TVs:

Standard QNED: Uses regular LED backlighting combined with Quantum Dot and NanoCell filters.

QNED Mini-LED (Higher-end models): Uses tens of thousands of microscopic Mini-LEDs for the backlight. This allows for precise Local Dimming, resulting in much deeper blacks, drastically reduced "blooming" (light haloing around bright objects), and superior contrast.

Are QNED TVs good for fast-paced gaming and watching sports? +

Yes, QNED TVs excel at motion handling. Most mid-to-high-tier QNED models feature native 120Hz or 144Hz refresh rates alongside HDMI 2.1 ports, making them fully compatible with modern gaming consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X for 4K/120fps gameplay. The punchy brightness and wide viewing angles provided by the NanoCell layer also make them exceptional for watching live sports with groups of friends.

How are the viewing angles on a QNED TV? +

Because QNED TVs predominantly use IPS (In-Plane Switching) style panels enhanced by NanoCell technology, they offer much wider viewing angles than traditional VA-panel LED TVs.
